James Robert Sevier is an American novelist and former electrical design engineer. He is best known as the author of the historical thriller series Le Chef. Prior to his writing career, Sevier worked in the technology sector, notably contributing to Ethernet infrastructure deployment and speaking globally on issues surrounding the digital divide.

Early Life and Education

Sevier was born on September 4, 1960, in Santa Ana, California.

Engineering and Technology Career

Sevier began his career as an electrical design engineer, concentrating primarily on power distribution and lighting systems. He was subsequently recruited by Intel Corporation at their facility in Folsom, California, where he worked on migrating legacy computing distribution technologies to emerging Ethernet standards and presented its successful deployment to Gordon Moor- emeritus chairman, Intel Corporation.

In the 1990s, Sevier returned to Southern California to work with several technology startups before joining Lucent Technologies. He later transitioned into global technical presentation roles, representing corporate technology roadmaps to Fortune 500 companies worldwide including Industry Analyst briefings.

Public Speaking and Advocacy

During his tenure in the technology sector, Sevier became an advocate for addressing global disparities in technology access. In 2017, he delivered a headlining TEDx talk focused on the growing "digital divide" and the financial barriers low-income families faced in accessing the Internet.

Following his TEDx presentation, Sevier participated in a Time 100 Talks panel, moderating a discussion on the digital divide alongside Verizon’s corporate responsibility executive Rose Stuckey Kirk.

Writing and Culinary Forum

Nearing the end of his technology career, Sevier established "Talking Over Food," a community forum designed to facilitate social discussion over culinary experiences. It is here where James built a thriving culinary business.

He subsequently turned to fiction writing, debuting with the historical thriller novel Le Chef: The Exodus Seed, the first installment in his Le Chef series.

Personal Life

Sevier and his wife of over 30 years reside on the French Riviera.
